House of Cards Tournament
AGC’s House of Cards tournament provides middle school and high school students a fun and challenging introduction to the construction industry. More than 25 teams annually vie for the championship trophy by creating projects using playing cards and drafting dots. The tournament also strives to open students to the possibility of construction, design and related careers through discussions with construction professionals and UNLV students, and exploration of the industry’s modernization and application of new technologies such as robotics and automation.
House of Cards is one way AGC strives to disseminate that message to the very people who could use it to plan their future, according to Steve Holloway, AGC Las Vegas executive vice president.
“Construction is everywhere. It is part of all our daily lives, and is one of the most important industries in the country, employing millions of people and contributing to our economy, standard of living and communities,” Holloway explained. “Despite construction’s contributions to the economy and way of life, as well as higher than average wages available in the construction trades, students haven’t gotten the message that this industry virtually guarantees a bright future for skilled, aggressive, hard-working employees.”
